Thermalling Course

Overview

A proposed programme about finding and using thermals in the country around Pokhara. It assumes a pilot who already flies, and it is not open for enrolment. Entry hours, duration, and price have not been confirmed, so they are not shown.

Who it is for

Pilots who already take off and land with some independence and want to understand lift. The precise standard for joining has not been confirmed.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites have not been confirmed. They will be listed here before enrolment opens.

Proposed learning objectives

• Read the signs of a thermal on the ground and in the air.
• Practise centring and leaving lift with an instructor’s guidance.
• Connect soaring decisions to the weather of the day, including the decision to land.

Proposed structure

1. 01

   Briefing

   What the day is offering, and what this outline will and will not attempt. No minimum climb or distance is promised.

2. 02

   Theory of lift

   How thermals form in this landscape, how to approach them, and how to leave them.

3. 03

   Guided flights

   Flights focused on finding lift, flown only in conditions that suit the group. Some days will not produce usable thermals.

4. 04

   Debrief

   What worked, what did not, and what to practise next. Progress is individual.

Equipment

Equipment requirements have not been confirmed. The school will say what is provided and what students should bring before a programme begins.
